2015 Bryksy's Vineyard Watervale Riesling
An immediately recognisable Watervale Riesling aromatically with ripe lemon juice aromas complexed by floral highlights leaping out of the glass. The palate displays an incredible sense of delicacy and flavours somehow dance across a lively but well set in acid profile. An almost plushness to the palate belies the complexities that lie in wait beneath for what is sure to be revealed in an exceptional future for this wine.
Located just north of the Watervale Township, it was planted in 1969 on a fertile patch of land with an easterly aspect. The wines from this vineyard are typically delicate and lithe with flavours that somehow dance across the palate and retain an immense ability to age into a classic Watervale style.
A very dry spring which was ideal for budburst led into our coolest January in 23 years, although rainfall remained very low. We were finally blessed with some significant rainfall on the 10th January (42.4mm), which really saved our vintage and led to wonderful flavour development and acid retention in both reds and whites. But then we had a series of heat waves in February, which brought everything on very quickly. These conditions led to the ripening of Shiraz at the same time as Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon.
With careful cellaring this wine will reward ageing for up to 10 years.
